My New Venture, Food Photography! November 30, 2008

Posted by Pat in : nothing in particular , 1 comment so far

Wow. I never thought this would happen but it is. I finally moved into the digital age and got myself a digital camera. You know, the ones that don’t need any film. All my friends have had those for years but for some reason I never had a need. Well, now I do and I will share with you the reason for it.

I am starting a new hobby. It has to do with food and photography together. That’s right, food photography. That is the art of taking pictures of food. Most people don’t think about food photography because, well, they just don’t. but how do you think all those yummy pictures from menus get there?

There really is a lot to taking photographs of food that you might not know. The freshness of it is a big factor. The lighting of course is important. That has to do with all types of picture taking. But the most important aspect of food photos is the type of food. That’s right, a fresh salad is harder to make look yummy than a hot burger.

I’m trying to get my leg into the business of being a Los Angeles food photographer. There really is a big market for it. Lots of new food venues are opening up everywhere and they need someone to take pictures of their food.

Since I live in Los Angeles, it make it really easy and simple for me to drive there, talk to the owner and snap a few pictures. I am very excited about this new venture of mine.

What You Should Know About Forex Trading November 29, 2008

Posted by Pat in : nothing in particular , add a comment

Recently, Forex trading has become extremely popular. However, many people who are interested in Forex trading have little idea what it involves. They are often attracted to this type of trading based on its popularity and the belief that, because others are using it, it must be profitable. This is not always the case. Forex trading is most useful for larger companies rather than independent day traders. Still, if you want to get involved with Forex trading, you should understand how it works, and, more importantly, how it is different from the kind of trading most day traders do.

The first aspect of Forex trading involves interest rates. If you are trading the EUR-USD, for example, then you are buying the Euro currency and selling the US Dollar. In Forex trading, accounts are settled every day at 5:00pm ET, and at this time you earn interest rates on the currency that you bought and pay interest rates on the currency that you sold.

Here’s a useful example. Currently the European Central Bank (ECB) has set its interest rates at 4.25% while the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC, part of the Fed) offers only 2%. If you trade EUR-USD and hold it overnight, then you receive the equivalent of 4.25% divided by 360 days for the Euros that you own and you pay the equivalent of 2% divided by 360 days for the US Dollars that you sold. So you are receiving the equivalent of 2.25% divided by 360 days every day that you hold this position. (It’s important to note that your broker will charge you the spread for “swapping” your position overnight. But if he is a reputable broker, then he will pay you the interest rate spread.)

The possibility of daily income is what effectively attracts people to Forex trading, but the actual profits you receive are relatively small. In our example, 2.25% divided by 360 is 0.00625%, which means that if you invested $10,000 in your position, then you would earn approx. $0.63 per day in interest.

Most day traders become less interested in Forex trading when they understand this. And that seems reasonable given that it is most successful when you have huge amounts to invest. Forex traders, or at least those who profit significantly from it, are usually large companies, institutions, hedge funds and banks that easily hold $100 million or more overnight and therefore earn $6,250 in interest every day. That’s $187,000 per month, and they hedge their positions to minimize the risk of fluctuations in the currencies.

If you are still interested in Forex trading, there are two factors you should keep in mind:

The first factor that moves currency prices is interest rates. If you are going to invest, make sure you have a currency pair moving when the underlying interest rate markets are open. As soon as the interest markets close, the prices of the currency pair will simply be moving sideways.

The second factor that influences currency prices is foreign investment. If you are a US company that wants to invest $10 billion in Mexico, then most probably you would have to buy the Mexican Peso to pay local contractors and workers. Though some might accept payments in US Dollars it is still very common to pay local companies and workers in their local currency. This is especially true if your company is manufacturing the products in Mexico but sells them in the US; you will have to sell US Dollars and buy Mexican Pesos on a large scale, since your income is in US Dollars and you have to exchange it into Mexican Peso to pay the workers in your Mexican company.

Those two factors explain why you will see currency prices moving if a government introduces new rules and regulations for foreign investors. A change in the political landscape of a foreign country can cause sharp moves in their currency since it might affect the decision of large companies to invest in that country. These factors usually affect currency prices over days and weeks, maybe even months, and not necessarily within a single day. However, even throughout a single day you may see a sharp reaction of currency prices to geopolitical news and news that affect the interest rates of a currency.

Hopefully this helps you better understand what Forex trading is all about. If it seems attractive to you, then plan on spending some time researching which currency markets are right for you before jumping in. Obviously, there is plenty to consider when investigating these trades, and the research is very different than the kind that most day traders are used to doing since it involves knowledge of international currencies and even day-to-day politics. Still, if the possibility of regular daily profits remains attractive, Forex trading may be right for you.

Having trouble finding the right weight loss product? November 29, 2008

I was having the same problem. With so many different claimed ways of losing this many pounds in so many days from so many sources it just began to be a blur. It seemed like I would never be able to make up my mind and choose the one that was right for me. Especially since they all seem to say lose weight fast or something to that affect!

I took a little time to do some research on the topic and found a review on some of the top ones on the market. There were like 10 of them to look at. But there was one that caught my eye because it spoke of not only having a diet that was proper for your body where you didn’t have to starve yourself! It also explained how you could rid yourself of toxins and parasites as well which many people don’t know they have in the first place.

As I read this review, I found out that the creator of this product is a female doctor who actually through testing found out that these parasites within us, can not only make you sick but can also make it difficult for people to succeed with there weight loss goals. It also said that the weight loss industry in general wasn’t happy with her releasing this because now people would actually know how to lose weight fast and to be able to regain there health and most of all keep it! So other diet products and services, like the ones that you buy expensive foods or diet pills etc., knew that once there customers found out about her secret. It was over for them and so was the millions that they rip off people for every year.

After checking out others I knew I had to give Dr. Suzanne’s a fair shot. I had bought the food before on another diet and it was just way to expensive for me. There is no food with hers which was perfect for me! Cheaper already I thought as I purchased her e-book. I’m so glad I did too, I just followed her directions to the letter and have lost 17 pounds so far as of this morning. I have about 9 or 10 more to go. When I lose that I’ll be in the best shape I’ve been in, in 7 years! So if your looking for a diet that works, here’s my advice. Find one for less than a hundred that has a money back guarantee like hers does and follow it to the letter!

How To Reduce Your Outdoor Sports Costs November 28, 2008

As the credit crunch begins to bite more and more of us the world over are looking for a way to save money.

When you really try you can save thousands of dollars/pounds etc.  I have been a bit short of cash lately and needed some new waterproof walking shoes.  Now historically I would have visited a few stores and budgeted an amount say up to £75.00 for this purchase.

Since losing my job I need to do things as cheaply as possible and a bit of research found a pair of end of season waterproof shoes reduced from £79.99 to just £19.99.   A phenomenal £60.00 saving.

Yes, you guessed it I bought them online.

Similarly, I have bought many other luxury items for a fraction of their new price by picking up “as new” items on auction sites such as eBAy.

I am one of those people that likes to try new things a lot.  I particularly enjoying engaging in a multitude of outdoor activites.  I move on from one thing to the next.  I like to accquire a basic level of competetence but am not the kind of person to obsess about becoming great at anyone discipline.

The only downside to trying new sports is the cost of entry.  Buying the gear needed to safely participate and enjoy a new activity can be a barrier to entry for many of us.  However, lets say I want to try out snowmobile, where better to pick up a bargain than say a used snowmobile store?

Similarly, if I’m looking to try out an all terrain vehicle the place to get a great machine is to trawl Craigs List, local advertisments or an online shop offering used atvs for sale.

Actually, my next purchase is going to be a used mountain bike.  I’m looking for a great brand such as Specialized and I’m dying to try out a full-suspension machine equipped with disc brakes.  It’s been about 5 years since I last enjoyed mountain biking and the technology changes have been breathtaking.

When I’m done I can sell on my purchases and because I bought pre-owned items I can recoup most of my investment enabling me to enjoy these sports without worrying about prohibitive costs of expensive sports such as snowmobiling.

Why don’t you do the same?

Why is Dog Behaviour Training important November 28, 2008

Posted by Pat in : nothing in particular , add a comment

When you train a dog not only do you teach him to behave and perform differently. You do it in such a way that he does what you want by giving specific commands. Many different training styles are available and some of them wok better for different types of dogs.

Dog behavior training is important for both the pet and its owner. It’s important to the safety of both of them and the public at large. fIf the dog will accompany its owner in the general community, the good dog training will hinder canine’s unfriendly and aggressive behavior towards others. Control typical canine attributes like barking, biting, threatening and hostile behavior and even whining

For bringing up a happy dog you should see to it that the dog training sessions are fun filled and game events. Systematically, dog training lessons should be done one or more times a day everyday. As with any other learning, they must start with the easiest command and build on that to prepare for the next more complex lesson. Dog training is not a one day affair, and and owner needs to commit each day to help train. Each command might take about a week for your dog to recognize.

Dog behavior training can handle a wide variety of behaviors, including sitting, giving a paw, eliminating waste on command, fetching food or a toy, or preventing touching with paws or mouth. Keep your eye on how your dog interacts with people and other dogs because during the dog training that is where you will learn to to deal with your dogs natural canine aggression.

Rewards and praise are vital parts of quality dog training. There is no such thing as “enough praising” during the training session itself but it goes beyond the lessons into the dog’s life after the training has finished. However, the completion of the course does not mean that the dog training can end there. The dog’s praises and rewards will be continued if his behavior needs are corrected and reinforced over time.

The dog behavior training is not difficult and the end result is not that the dog is happy ut the owner is just as happy. There is meaning behind the saying ‘man’s best friend’. When you get a dog that is suited to you, not only does that dog become your companion, but that dog will become your best friend.
